Best Anime on Hulu: Anime Series to Watch Right Now

If you watch anime on a regular basis then you already know that Hulu is a great spot to stream a lot of classics as well as series from recent years. There is a large amount of anime series and movies you can check out, some of them being dubbed and some of them being dubbed – so there’s something for everyone in the “subs vs dubs” war.

1. Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan is one of the biggest series to come out in recent years, and even if you haven’t kept up with the anime world, chances are that you heard about this one. All 69 episodes spanning 3 seasons are available on Hulu, and the series can be streamed with subtitles or with the English dub. The show is gearing up for a 4th season, which will come out in 2020, so if you’re not yet familiar with Attack on Titan then you can easily binge watch the 3 seasons so that once the new one goes up, you’ll be up to date.


2. Hellsing and Hellsing Ultimate

If you want a quick horror anime but you don’t know where to start, the Hellsing franchise could be an interesting one to check out. The original series has only 13 episodes, while the Ultimate version has 10 long episodes (as long as 65 minutes) – that’s just enough to get your quick fix of horror anime while at the same time getting immersed in the vampire-filled world of Hellsing.


3. Blood-C

If Hellsing didn’t have enough gore for you, then Blood-C might be a suitable alternative. At its core, Blood-C is an action thriller, but its gore and horror elements will definitely interest the fans of horror anime. The show’s villains are a race of monsters that feed on human blood, and while it only lasted 12 episodes, there’s plenty of blood-filled scenes in the series.

4. K-On!!

K-On!! is a well-known series among fans of ‘slice of life’ anime, being considered one of the shows that contributed to the genre’s success in its home country. Both seasons are available for streaming on Hulu and follows a group of girls who are part of their school’s music club. The show is an easy watch, and if you like shows that are based around the music world then this could be an interesting show for you.


5. Yu Yu Hakusho

If you prefer slightly older anime series then Yu Yu Hakusho is a classic that everyone should check out at one point. If you’re into action-packed shonen anime, then this one has 112 episodes to sing your teeth into. The show focuses on martial arts, following the protagonist (Yusuke) as he tries to solve various cases once he takes on the role of detective of the underworld. Moreover, the series has a long tournament story arc, which will definitely catch the attention of some action anime enthusiasts.


6. My Hero Academia

If you like action-packed anime but want something more recent, then chances are you already heard of My Hero Academia. The show debuted in 2016 and became a huge hit. You can stream all 3 seasons (66 episodes) on Hulu with subs or dubs. Moreover, the show is gearing up for a 4th season, so now would be a good time to catch up and see what the show is all about before the new season starts. If you’re into super hero movies then there’s a chance this action-adventure shonen is for you.


7. Death Note

For fans of crime thriller series with a more cerebral side to it and a dash of the occult, Death Note is an ideal series to check out. The series started in 2006 and aired 37 episodes, popping up on ‘best anime’ lists ever since. The show is considered a classic, and follows the action of a student who stumbles across a Death Note, which is a notebook that has the power to kill the people whose names are written down. The show can be watched with subtitles or with the English dub, and despite being more than a decade old, it continues to receive various adaptations.


8. Dragon Ball

Any person that is remotely interested in anime has heard of the Dragon Ball franchise. Dragon Ball has been around since the mid-80s, being introduced to Western audiences in the mid-90s, and has been going strong ever since. The last incarnation of the franchise, Dragon Ball Super, wrapped up in 2017. However, if you’ve never watched the series and you’re interested to see what it’s about, Hulu has all the 153 episodes of the Dragon Ball series with subtitles. This way, you can see how it all started.


9. InuYasha and The Final Act

Another classic anime that received less attention in recent years, InuYasha and InuYasha The Final Act spans 193 episodes – which is plenty to go through once you get the hang of the story. The English dub is available on Hulu, and the show manages to balance out comedy with action scenes, making it an easy to watch shonen anime. If you like show that revolve around the supernatural and sword fighting, and you’re a fan of Japanese mythology then you might become a fan of InuYasha.


10. One Piece

If you keep up with what’s going on in the world of anime then you definitely heard of One Piece. The show has been around since 1999 and is still airing, having over 900 episodes to its name. The subbed version of the show is available on Hulu up to episode 750. If you’ve never checked out the series then there is plenty to binge watch.
