As we learn more about the Coronavirus, there have been several changes made to the guidance as well as the guidance surrounding masks.
But with this comes the question of whether 3-ply face masks are the most effective solutions for protection against the virus.
In this article, we will be providing you with some insight into the masks on offer and their effectiveness.
Different Types OF Mask Available
Since the announcement for face masks to be mandatory in the UK, there have been many face masks on the market at this time. However, there is much debate about which is best for protecting you.
- Home Made Masks – One of the options out there for you to choose from when it comes to your face masks is a home-made version. Whether it is with a bandana, a t-shirt, or another piece of material, this can benefit you when out and about.
- 3 Ply Masks – If you are looking for a face mask that can provide you with more protection then a 3 ply surgical mask may be better for you. These have a filter in the center as well as a waterproof layer giving you much more protection than a cloth face covering.
- N95 Masks – The final type of mask that you can benefit from is the N95 mask. This can provide the most amount of protection, however, this can be costly. These are reserved for those working in the NHS and those working with fine dust particles due to the filter that is located on the inside of the mask.
What Are 3 Ply Masks Made Of?
Though some of these masks can differ from others, there are 3 main layers of the common Blue three-ply mask. The top and bottom layer of the mask is made of a spun-bonded polypropylene non-woven fabric.
The middle layer is a melted brown woven fabric that acts as a filter to catch particles such as this. Though it will not provide as much protection as those with a filter built-in, it will enable you to feel more protected when visiting the supermarket or on public transport.
Don’t Forget About Social Distancing
Though there are several masks out there designed to provide you with the protection that you need from Covid-19, it is important to remember the importance of social distancing. Though you have a mask on, this cannot guarantee that you are 100% protected from the virus, therefore it is important to maintain 2-meter social distancing where possible.
Whether you are meeting up with friends or visiting your local shop, sticking to social distancing and other restrictions will enable you to go about your normal life with as minimal risk as possible, allowing the mask to protect you.
Regardless of the type of mask that you have, it is important to make sure you are following government guidance And washing hands regularly to make sure that you’re kept as safe as possible during this unusual time.
