Pricing and Packages

cyberghostvpn pricing plan

Cyberghost is an average to high-priced VPN service that has both a free version and a premium version. Their free version is not well advertised on their website, which is strange for a freemium service. Normally, they advertise their free version and hope that the user will upgrade later down the line when they require more power. However, Cyberghost is very sneaky and doesn't disclose their free VPN, unless of course, I missed some small print on their website.

As for their paid version, you can expect to get all the features that Cyberghost offers. The free plan is, of course, limited. But with the paid plans, you get all the features plus a few extras. Their best plans start off at an averagely priced $2.75 for 3 years, which is ok considering this VPN has some interesting options. It is good to know that they don’t vary the features depending on the plan you choose. The only thing that you will notice is the price goes down with the more commitment you place on their platform. This is pretty standard amongst all VPNs.

Cyberghost has two different price plans, which deviates from the standard three most providers offer. The annual plan is the cheapest, priced at $5.99/month. Their monthly plan is a little more expensive, starting at $12.99 a month that is same as ExpressVPN. As I said, these prices are pretty average/expensive, but you do get a lot of servers and features when you sign up to Cyberghost.

Payment Options

Every VPN service should have a range of payment options for their users. Their job is to provide security and safety on the web, and that should be reflected in their payment gateways. Their users should be able to pay with more anonymity, protecting their identity.

payment method

I was quite reasonable in the payment gateways Cyberghost offered its users. The options were just enough and if there were any more, they were not well advertised.

The Cyberghostvpn allows you to pay in the standard methods, including credit/debit card (Visa, MasterCard, and American Express) and PayPal. Sure, PayPal is a secure third-party method to pay securely. Also, provide the option for Bitcoin, Bitcoin allows for an almost complete anonymous payment. It's the hot option incorporated into all VPN gateways at present.

Setup and User-Friendliness

Downloading and setting up Cyberghost on my computer was very easy and the whole thing took less than 5 minutes. Once you have paid for the VPN, you will instantly start downloading the correct client for your current operating system.

This is excellent and prevents any headaches for new users. When the VPN downloaded the installation wizard started. Once I had gone through this and selected by directories, I was good to go.

cyberghost-client

Once I had got to the main screen of the client, I had plenty of options to choose from. The home screen reminded me of PureVPN and their many purpose-driven options. Initially, you will be directed to the free client which has both servers and features locked off, so remember to log in before you get upset and write to support.

cyberghost-client-2

Once logged on, you will have access to all features and will be able to select your servers and locations. The home screen gives you to option to select a connection based on what you want to do. The client gives you two options to surf anonymously, stream, torrent, unblock websites, protect your Wi-Fi or select a server manually.

As I said, this is similar to PureVPN. When you click these options, you will be given loads of other options, including server choice, whether a browser will be launched upon connection, whether you want any blocker activated and much more.

cyberghost-client-on

With the streaming and website unblocking options, you will be able to select the websites you want to use from the client. Unfortunately, Netflix is not supported by Cyberghost. The torrenting option supports most servers but many of the US servers are not permitted for P2P activity.

cyberghost-client-settings

Moving on to the settings, they were actually quite disappointing. They were very barebones and didn’t have a lot of options for protocols or connections. They allowed you to change the startup procedures, whether or not you wanted proxies and whether you wanted to use random ports with every connection, but that’s about it. I couldn’t find any option for protocol, except with the option to use TCP instead of UDP. There was the option to select apps to protect, however, which was a nice addition.

What I did like is that you can send a ticket to support directly from the client, which saves you time navigating to their website. Although the client lacks when it comes to configurations, the options and server choices are excellent and are something I very much enjoyed. Whether or not they’re gimmicks, I was satisfied nonetheless.

Locations

cyberghost vpn server locations

A VPN should have a range of servers to satisfy those who want to stream and torrent on their network. Cyberghost is excellent when it comes to their network and they provide users with 3900+ servers in 60+ different countries around the world.

Although the number of locations is small, the server count is impressive and much larger than many other providers. As already stated in the client section, they have optimized servers for torrenting and streaming, which provide excellent speeds. However, although torrenting is allowed, US servers don’t seem to be an option.

Compatibility

A VPN should be able to offer users the ability to connect to a range of devices from one account, as a user will need to protect more than just their desktop. Cyberghost gives users the ability to connect up to 5 devices to one account, which should be plenty for the average user.

Compatibility

As for the devices themselves, Cyberghost supports the usual Windows, Mac, IOS, and Android operating systems, as well as some alternative others such as Amazon Firestick, Android TV. Linux and router are also options, and Cyberghost also has guides on how to set up OpenVPN and other protocols manually on any device.

Customer Support

After Cyberghost cancels the free plan, they provide the 24/7 live support now.

Unfortunately, by the looks of things, Cyberghost does not offer 24/7 support for its users. One thing that I did like the look of though is that they offer support for both their free and premium plans. There was no disclose that free users will not be able to use ticketed support.

They also have live chat (available for the paid customers) which is amazing and something that you don’t see with many other providers. However, it was offline when I wanted to use it, so I didn’t get the chance to test it.

cyberghost-supportAs well as live chat, they offer ticket-based support and a lot of other self-serving help. They allow users to check out the guides, FAQs, troubleshooting and announcements sections on their support page and everything is extensively laid out.

This is important if you want to set-up OpenVPN or some other protocol manually without the client. Although 24/7 chat is not given, I was still happy with what Cyberghost had to offer.

Security and Privacy

The most important aspect if any VPN is to keep you safe and secure on their network. Cyberghost does that perfectly and has additional protection to make sure that you’re not affected by adverts, malicious websites, and trackers. Their client supports a tough 256-bit data cipher, which is currently the toughest encryption available to VPNs.

They support a range of protocols but don’t let you choose the one you want through their client. They support OpenVPN, L2TP, and PPTP, and require you to set them up manually with their given guides.

cyberghost-security

As well as a 256-bit cipher, they authenticate data with SHA-1 and handshake with RSA-2048. These are excellent encryptions but they could be improved with SHA-2 and RSA-4096. However, Cyberghost argues that the encryption is solid and that you will be not be compromised on their network. Cyberghost also uses perfect forward secrecy and uses random ports with every connection to make sure the connection is not compromised.

As for logs, Cyberghost does not keep any with the exception of some connection logs. However, these don’t breach any anonymity and shouldn’t worry about any users. In addition, they are based on a privacy-friendly country, outside of any EU jurisdictions. In total, it seems that Cyberghost is a fantastic VPN to use in terms of privacy and security.

As a little extra, they allow offer ad-blocked software with all their plans, as well as malicious website prevention and tracking blocking. These can be switched on and off from when you click on certain options from the main menu of their client.

Free Trial and Refund Policy

I have already mentioned that Cyberghost offers a free VPN, so this acts as an excellent way to provide you with insight into what their VPN is like. As a result, they do not offer any free trial. They do, however, offer a 45-day money-back guarantee, which enables you to claim your money back if you’re not satisfied with their service.

Conclusion

Cyberghost is an excellent VPN service that offers both a free and paid VPN. They have a ton of features and offer ad-blocking and malicious website prevention software with every plan. They are more expensive than some other service but you do get a lot of things to play around with.

Their client allows you to choose servers based on your goals and they offer some solid security. If you want to change your protocols, you will have to do so manually. Although their support is not 24/7, their extensive guides and FAQs should provide you with an answer. Overall, Cyberghost is a VPN that I would recommend to anyone.
