Free-to-play games are built around cosmetics and small purchases. Apex Legends is no different. The cosmetics can be had for free, but it takes a while to do so. Most cosmetics can be acquired from Apex Packs—packs that give items, cosmetics, and crafting materials to make other cosmetics.
Players can buy Apex Packs or earn them as they level up. The best thing about Apex Legends cosmetics is that they’re surface-level only—meaning they do not affect gameplay at all. It’s purely about looking as cool as possible.
Apex Legends Gun Skins
Apex Legends has skins for guns and characters. Let’s talk about some of the best Apex Legends gun skins first!
Wingman: Attention to Detail
The Wingman is already a favorite gun—though not as powerful as it was at the launch of the game. This skin gives the gun a sort of ray gun appearance. It has bronze metalwork that is quite unique in the game. The skin is also reactive! That means that as your play and earn kill, the skin puts on some awesome displays.
P2020: Death’s Scepter
A unique skin–and the only one in Apex to have this specific shade of green—that has a spirit on the side grip. The skin has a black bottom grip and trigger guard and a wavy design down the barrel of the gun. A visual, not many Apex players will soon forget!
RE-45: Modern Advances
This weapon skin is a bit of a callback to the Golden Gun from Nintendo 64’s GoldenEye. An all-black skin with gold trim gives the gun a bit of a geometric feel and makes it pop out! This gun skin also reminds me of the special guns that Castor Troy uses in the movie Face/Off, and anyone who has seen that movie wants those guns!
L-Star: Alien Invasion
This weapon skin certainly lives up to its name! The Alien Invasion looks like it was pulled right out of a science fiction movie. Purple skin with a goldish-yellow grip and neon green features, the Alien Invasion is a futuristic and awesome-looking weapon skin!
Havoc: Sonic Empire
With the blue current running through the barrel that reminds one of a famous hedgehog, the skin fits its name: Sonic Empire. The rest of the skin is a black base with engraved silver over deep brown features.
Hemlok: The Cyberian
Another skin that aptly conveys its name is The Cyberian. An all-black skin with neon turquoise lining, this skin looks straight out of a wintery soviet army from the future! A unique skin that blends a cyberpunk feels with a cold-fronted aesthetic.
Kraber: The Pioneer
This black and gold skin makes the Kraber look like a gun made for high rollers. The name Pioneer suits it as the round muzzle gives it the look of a laser gun. An innovative design blending the black and gold with the laser feel.
Apex Legends Character Skins
Apex doesn’t just have gun skins, there are also character skins available to players. Some skins change the color scheme of the base outfit, while others are completely different looks—all while keeping the spirit of the character intact.
Bangalore – Viceroy
Bangalore’s Viceroy skin gives her a blue denim-looking outfit with gold lining. The look would be right at home in ancient Egyptian time or a futuristic world like The Fifth Element.
Bloodhound – Royal Guard
This black and red color scheme look gives Bloodhound a Samurai dynasty feel. If you were told that it was inspired by an Akira Kurosawa movie, would you think twice about it? I sure wouldn’t. The vibrant red adds a menacing look to Bloodhound—not that Bloodhound didn’t already have that!
Caustic – Third Emperor
A deep navy and purple color scheme with grey patterning and gold trimming give the feel of a ninja from Mortal Kombat. If this skin were put alongside the likes of Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Rain, it’d blend right in!
Crypto – The Hired Gun
A sleek and stylish suit that gives Crypto a Yakuza hitman vibe. The fancy shoes and jacket are a warning to all not to mess with this Apex competitor.
Gibraltar – Ride or Die
I’m not sure if Gibraltar is suiting up for some ancient sport, to be a sparring partner or a stuntman, but either way, this skin is a great design! The ancient-looking shield and helmet are nice touches.
Fuse – Dread Captain
This skin makes Fuse look like a character straight out of the Pirates of the Caribbean—complete with the washed-looking skin that the ghost pirates have. The clothing is dark green and peppered with gold, the stuff that pirates love!
Loba – Purple Reign
Loba is doing her best Johnny Mnemonic meets Cyberpunk cosplay with this skin. Varying shades of purple and what looks like Cybernetic designs on her thighs and midsection, and light purple hair and makeup give this a vibrant feel.
Mirage – Ghost Machine
Is it any surprise that a skin named ‘Ghost Machine’ is so clearly inspired by Ghost in the Shell? For fans of the Major, this skin is a must-have.
Revenant – False Idol
A cheeky name for this skin—a bit on the nose, honestly. Revenant dons the look of an ancient pharaoh complete with the eagle-looking bird head. The glossy blue and gold coloring makes this skin-pop and gives all the more reason for players to pick it up.
Wraith – Void Specialist
Another skin that looks to be inspired by Mortal Kombat, with the black, grey, and pink coloring, Wraith fits right in with the likes of Mileena and Katana.
Everyone Could Use A Hand
It’s no secret that Apex Legends has a lot of skins and cosmetics and acquiring them can take a long time. Every time that you raise your player level, you’ll get an Apex Pack that has crafting materials and the chance at skins.
